SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 102

Commemorating the passing of the Honorable Emery Woodall, former
educator, postmaster, Senate Sergeant at Arms and
distinguished West Virginian.
Whereas, The Honorable Emery Woodall of Hamlin, Lincoln
County, West Virginia, was a graduate of Marshall University and
William and Mary College. He was an Army veteran of World War II;
and
Whereas, The Honorable Emery Woodall, who retired from the
United States Postal Service, served as postmaster in Hamlin,
Lincoln County, West Virginia. He was also a former teacher at
Hamlin High School, a licensed realtor and served as an usher at
Marshall University athletic events; and
Whereas, The Honorable Emery Woodall was married to his
beloved wife, Dorothy Martin Woodall. He had four children:
sons, E. "Woody" Woodall of Culloden; Wayne Woodall of
Buckhannon; and Martin Woodall of Dallas, Texas; and daughter,
Susan Pettibone of Middleburg, Virginia. He was also the proud
grandfather of eight grandchildren; and
Whereas, The Honorable Emery Woodall was a respected member
of a myriad of civic organizations, including the Hamlin Masonic
Lodge; Scottish Rite and Beni Kedem Shrine Temple; the American
Legion; the National Association of Postmasters; the CheylanOrder of the Eastern Star; and the Trinity United Methodist
Church of Hamlin. He was also very active and respected in
democratic party politics, helping many present and past
officeholders achieve their goals; and
Whereas, In 1983, the Honorable Emery Woodall was elected
the 46th Sergeant at Arms of the West Virginia Senate after
having served several years as an assistant Sergeant at Arms; and
Whereas, The Honorable Emery Woodall passed away October 4,
1993, at his home in his beloved Hamlin; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby expresses its sincere sadness at the
passing of the Honorable Emery Woodall, former educator,
postmaster, Senate Sergeant at Arms and distinguished West
Virginian; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to
forward a copy of this resolution to the wife of the Honorable
Emery Woodall, Dorothy Martin Woodall, and his sons, E. "Woody"
Woodall, Wayne Woodall and Martin Woodall and daughter, Susan
Pettibone.
